Muslims in Malaysia will celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri tomorrow (May 2).
Keeper of the Ruler's Seal Syed Danial Syed Ahmad made the announcement in a live broadcast on television.
"To complete the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's decree, with the consent of the Conference of Rulers, the Keeper of the Ruler's Seal announces that Hari Raya Puasa for all states in Malaysia is on May 2," the Keeper of the Ruler's Seal's office said in a statement.
Some had expected Hari Raya Aidilfitri to fall on May 3 but more accurately, the day is determined by the sighting of the first moon.
The exercise is conducted by the states' moon sighting committees which are led by their respective muftis as well as expert input from the Survey and Mapping Department.
The announcement is made after confirmation of the moon sighting data.
In Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim country, its government has also announced that Hari Raya Aidilfitri will be tomorrow.
Meanwhile, differing from Malaysia and Indonesia, Singapore's national mufti Nazirudin Mohd Nasir announced the country will observe Hari Raya Aidilfitri on Tuesday (May 3).
