DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook has denied a claim that he and other MPs from the party are throwing their support behind Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin to become prime minister again.
This comes after Warisan president Shafie Apdal revealed the contents of a conversation he had with Muhyiddin (above, left), which he claimed to have happened two months ago, where the Pagoh MP allegedly said he has secured the support of 119 MPs after negotiating with Loke and Pakatan Harapan chairperson Anwar Ibrahim.
In a sarcastic response, Loke (above, right) told Malaysiakini today that Muhyiddin would indeed become a prime minister again if such claims were true.
"If that is the case, he would have been sworn in as PM right?
"That is, of course, not true... Do you think that DAP will give our support to Muhyiddin?" he said in a text message.
Yesterday, several media outlets quoted Shafie saying that Muhyiddin called him two months ago seeking his support in a bid to retake Putrajaya.
"He called me two months ago. He said brother, I already have 119, I have negotiated with brother Anwar, with Anthony Loke.
"This was what he told me... Even without Warisan, I already have 119.
"So I told him, Tan Sri, if you already have enough, then you proceed, I will not follow you," Shafie said in his speech to a crowd at a Warisan event in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
New focus for GE15
Separately, Loke in a Facebook post expressed hope that the conclusion of the recent PKR polls will see a renewed focus within Harapan on the next 15th general elections.
Loke congratulated Anwar, who retained his position uncontested, and the new central leadership under newly-elected deputy president Rafizi Ramli, who had unofficially defeated his challenger, Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
"I hope that following the conclusion of the PKR elections, the next focus will be to strengthen cooperation among Harapan parties to face the 15th general election," said Loke.
"All Harapan leaders, particularly members of the Presidential Council, need to close ranks and muster all our energy to regain voters' trust in Harapan's struggle.
"With close cooperation, a high level of teamwork and focus on the people's struggle, Harapan will rise again in the 15th general election!," he said.
Loke also credited Saifuddin for his contributions as former PKR secretary-general. He also congratulated the new PKR central leadership including four new elected vice-presidents - Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shaari, Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun, Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Tanjong Malim MP Chang Lih Kang.
Loke said this was based on past cooperation with Saifuddin from 2012 to 2022, while he still served as DAP's national organising secretary.
"We constantly played a role behind the scenes to manage and resolve any issues arising in the ties between PKR and DAP.
"This close working cooperation has created a high level of understanding and trust between us," said Loke.
