The Shah Alam High Court today dismissed political analyst Abdul Razak Baginda's application for bail.

With the application struck out, Abdul Razak will be in jail pending hearing of the case which has been fixed for March next year.

According to Bernama , Judge KN Segara rejected the application on grounds that Abdul Razak did not submit his medical report and that the offence facing him was a serious one.

The 46-year-old analyst is charged with abetting two policemen from the Special Action Unit in the murder of Mongolian national Altantunya Shaariibuu.

Blown-up body

Her blown-up body was found in an isolated area in November. If found guilty, he faces the death penalty.

Abdul Razak is alleged to have committed the offence at Bangunan Getah Asli in Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur between 9.54am and 11.05am on Oct 18.

In December, he was granted RM1 million bail after his lawyers argued he was ill. But Abdul Razak's oral application for an extension of his bail was later rejected by the court and ordered the accused to file in a formal application.

The court fixed today to hear the application by Abdul Razak who was represented by counsel Wong Kin Kheong.

"There are enough grounds to show he was abetting this offence," High Court judge Segara said.

Police said he was having an affair with her but wanted her out of his life after she demanded money.

"The question of threat to his life, family, was not an issue. Money was the issue and he wanted her off," the judge said. "Under these circumstances, bail cannot be granted. It's a too-serious offence."

Abdul Razak, who looked tired and pale, appeared shocked when the judge announced his decision.

Rarely given

Abdul Razak was first granted bail by High Court judicial commissioner Mohd Zaki Md Yassin on Dec 14 on the condition that he surrenders his passport and reports to the Brickfields police station once a week.

He cited health reasons and that he needed medical attention regularly.

Bail is rarely given in Malaysia for such serious offences and the court's decision to grant bail was criticised by lawyers representing Altantunya's family.

It is alleged that Abdul Razak, who has close ties with Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, was sharing an intimate relationship with Altantunya. It was also alleged that she was kidnapped from outside his house.

Chief Inspector Azilah Hadri, 30, and Corporal Sirul Azhar Umar, 35, are charged with murdering Altantuya in Mukim Bukit Raja, Selangor between 10pm on Oct 19 and 1am on Oct 20.

The Mongolian government has said it will monitor the trial, and urged Malaysia to ensure it is transparent and free from political interference.
