Rocker Amy sheds tears at concert, pays tribute to departed drummer

A walk down memory lane was among the highlights of the Search Endemic Concert at Zepp Hall, Kuala Lumpur last night when the reunited group enthralled its fans with a blast from the past.
In the middle of the concert, Search vocalist Amy took some time to talk about their late drummer Yazit Ahmad.
"It's sad, when the journey is far like this but we no longer have friends we love. We feel the absence of Yazit. I’m sure the fans miss his sound.
"We miss him. When he first fell ill, I told the other band members to take care of Yazit’s family in case anything happened to him," said Amy, wiping away tears.
Amy, whose real name is Suhaimi Abdul Rahman, also shared memories with Yazit who he described as equivalent to Led Zeppelin drummer, John Bonham.
He recalled what a disciplined man Yazit was and also how the latter enjoyed Amy's cooking.
"Indeed, we were very close. The late Yazit was a man known for his discipline while working. He was very punctual and did not like people who come late.
“Although serious, he was also a funny person who liked my jokes. He also likes spicy sour dishes and my sardine sambal,” he said.
Amy then dedicated a song titled Hello Friends to Yazit. The performance was also accompanied by a montage displaying images of the deceased from the beginning of his involvement with the band.
Yazit, was was a co-founder of the Search band, died on September 26, 2019 at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital due to complications from various diseases.
Even though the band is now over four decades old, the Endemic Search Concert saw them play to a full house.
Amy, 64, was accompanied by guitarists Hillary Ang and Man Kidal as well as bass player Nasir Daud and fully entertained the 1,600 fans in attendance.
The line-up was complemented by a pair of siblings Genervie (keyboards/violin) and Arthur Kam (drums), while sound engineer Akira Yamauchi was flown in from Japan.
The repertoire that night consisted of a combination of Search's latest singles, Endemic I and Endemic II and many classics like Isabella, Fantasia Bulan Madu, Rozana, Meniti Titian Usang, Pelesit Kota, Pawana and Isi Atau Kulit.
