'Vote one free one', Keadilan tells voters
Keadilan today launched its 'Vote One Get One Free' campaign in the run-up to the Indera Kayangan by-election which will see a straight fight between Barisan Nasional's Oui Ah Lan and Keadilan's Khoo Yang Chong.
Describing it as a "very important message", Keadilan election deputy director Low Chee Chong explained that by voting for Khoo, the people will also get the services of Oui as she is expected to be reappointed as special assistant to Perlis Menteri Besar, Shahidan Kassim, if she loses the contest.
"Khoo's (photo) successful entry into the state assembly will ensure that Oui remains a special assistant to the MB of Perlis," said Low who is also Keadilan Youth vice-president.
"Given the political reality of a racist hegemony under the BN, it is indeed rare that the MB's special assistant is a Chinese," he added.
In view of this, Low said the people of Kangar should seize the opportunity to make a wise choice.
It is learnt that Oui, 58, tendered her resignation as special assistant to Shahidan prior to her nomination as a candidate for the by-election last Thursday.
The by-election scheduled for this Saturday was called following the death of incumbent Khor Tiang Lee last month. Khor was the Perlis MCA chief.
'Another rubber stamp'
Meanwhile, Low said that voting for Khoo was a wise choice as he is "a good friend to the locals and has better grasp of the needs and expectations of the people here".
"Oui's selection will only mean yet another rubber stamp in the state assembly as she is a candidate of the ruling coalition," he claimed.
As the campaign in Indera Kayangan heats up, Keadilan has resorted to new tactis in order to garner the crucial Chinese support.
Among them are, erecting 'reformasi' banners written in Chinese and driving around town playing Chinese New Year songs.
MCA, on the other hand, has been distributing VCDs to explain government policies to the people.
However, campaigners from both sides concede that it is an uphill task for either candidate to prove their mettle.
