A group of youths, believed to be Barisan Nasional supporters, have damaged yet another car belonging to a Keadilan member. Five cars have been damaged since the Indera Kayangan state by-election campaign in Perlis began last Thursday.

Raja Kamaruddin Raja Abdul Wahid, the party's Shah Alam deputy chief, told reporters today that a group of young men catapulted stones that damaged the rear window of his car as he was driving along Jalan Kangar at 3am this morning.

Kamaruddin, also known as Raja Commando, said he did not stop his car when he heard two loud thuds caused by stones thrown at his car. He was then on his way back to his hotel after a ceramah (political talk).

Asked if he would make a police report, Raja Kamaruddin said "What for? I don't trust the police anymore. What will they do?

"I only have one thing to say ... who are the ' pengganas (terrorists) now? All the time, the BN has been saying we (the opposition) are the terrorists," said Raja Kamaruddin.

In another incident, PAS president Fadzil Noor's car was also damaged by 'thugs' about midnight last night along Jalan Cukai.

A source who requested anonymity said Fadzil was on his way to a PAS operation centre in Jalan Cukai when he noticed the rear window of his car smashed. It is not known if Fadzil had lodged a police report.

Reports of violence

Since nomination day last Thursday, Keadilan have reported a series of violent acts by BN.

The attacks started last Friday when party's supreme council member Dr Xavier Jeyakumar whose car was parked in front of the Kangar Federal Hotel was vandalised.

On the same morning, Shah Alam Youth executive member Johari Jasin's car was damaged when vandals broke its windscreen in Pengkalan Assam.

On Sunday, Keadilan lodged a report on the assault of its party workers. The report alleged that Johari and his friends were set upon by a mob believed to be BN supporters at Jalan Medan Baru in Kangar.

They were checking on their centres at about 3am when they saw a group of BN supporters tearing down their posters. Johari was beaten up when he tried to stop the vandals.

The opposition party is contesting against BN in a straight fight on Saturday after nine days of campaigning.

The battle is expected to be tough for both candidates retired Chinese school headmistress Oui Ah Lan, 58, who is also the Perlis Wanita MCA chief and former school teacher Khoo Yang Chong, 60, running for Keadilan.

The Indera Kayangan seat fell vacant following the death of MCA state assembly representative Khor Liang Tee last month.
