Umno Youth has unanimously agreed to urge the government to set up a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to probe the littoral combat ship (LCS) scandal.
Wing chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the RCI panel should also be free of political party members.
"The commission should have experts in warship construction, engineering and those who are respectable.
"This is important to ensure that any findings and investigation results are not biased or seen to be siding with anyone," he said in a statement today.
Asyraf added that the MACC should work quickly and reveal its investigation findings soonest to ensure those involved in any graft are brought to justice.
The LCS project is a RM9 billion contract to procure six ships for the navy, which was initiated in 2011 but with zero completed ships to date after the initial first delivery date in 2019 was missed.
Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is among those implicated in the scandal after he - as then defence minister - signed off on changing the LCS vessel design against the navy's wishes.
At the same time, Zahid and his former boss Najib Abdul Razak are also trying to pin the blame on Pakatan Harapan, accusing them of stalling the project.
The government announced today that it would seek to declassify a forensic audit report on the project carried out during the Harapan government.

Asyraf, even if it was actually possible to form an RCI made up of “…those who are respectable”, they don’t stay that way for too long. The powers that be and forces in play have just too much of stolen rakyats money at their disposal to throw around to shift and sway, move, alter, influence, buy out, bribe, entice, etc and before the scoundrels can be caught with nowhere else to run, it’s DNAA all of a sudden, full acquittal, NFA, special pardon, alternate punishment, etc. You just need to turn around and look at all those behind you. All this rot is an UMNOBN legacy this unfortunate nation has been damned to bear. No need to ask MK to delete this post la. Pedih memang pedih, but that’s the truth. If it’s not said here, millions of Malaysia cuss and swear over it EVERYDAY across the nation. Live with it.
