The wreckage of the Diamond DA40 light aircraft, which crashed in the coastal area of Pulau Aman, near Nibong Tebal at 5.45 pm yesterday due to engine trouble, has been found at the crash site.

A Bernama report says that the police had ordered a 24-hour surveillance of the area until work to retrieve the wreckage had been completed.

Earlier plans to lift the wreckage from the area this evening had to be stopped due to technical problems.

On free flight training

The news agency was made to understand that the single-seater aircraft would be taken to the nearest airport or the Royal Malaysian Navy Base in Butterworth to allow the Department of Civil Aviation to conduct investigation.

The pilot Nor Azlan Yazid, 25, who was doing a free flight training managed to escape from the sinking aircraft which was owned by Halim Mazmin Aerospace in Langkawi.

According to Nor Azlan, his plane encountered engine trouble in the air before crashing into the sea. The Malaysia Airlines trainee pilot survived the crash unharmed.
