Police are investigating another report alleging an attempted kidnapping of a school student, this time in Kuala Lipis, Pahang.
Lipis police chief Azli Mohd Noor said it happened to a child who was returning from playing football at SK Jeram Landak at about 7.15pm on Sept 25.
The suspect is believed to be riding a red Proton Wira, he said in a statement.
The incident was reported by a woman, who is the mother of a child said to have thwarted the kidnap attempt, added Azli as quoted by Astro Awani.
According to her report, a man in the red Proton Wira grabbed one of them by the wrist and tried to drag him into the vehicle through the window, he said.
However, the woman's child pulled his friend's arm and the children fell into a bush. The Proton Wira then sped off, Azli said.
The case is investigated under Section 363/511 of the Penal Code for kidnapping.
He urged the public to report any suspicious activities or individuals in their neighbourhood and for those with information about this case to contact the Lipis Police District Headquarters at 09-3121999 or investigative officer Inspector Mohd Husni Daud at 011-654 26136.
Attempts in Kelantan and Perak
Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported that several schools in Kelantan issued reminders to parents to pick up their children on time and warned of the potential risk of kidnapping.
This followed a purported attempt to kidnap a schoolboy in Pasir Puteh on Sept 25.
The Standard Two student said a stranger had told him he was coming to pick the child up from school, as his parents were unable to do so that day, his father told Utusan Malaysia yesterday.
The primary school student felt scared and ran into the school compound for safety, his father said.
Since then, similar warnings on the risk of kidnapping have circulated on social media in various parts of the country, including in the Klang Valley.
Kelantan police have, however, denied claims of a rise in kidnap attempts in the state and urged the public not to create undue fear by spreading rumours.
In a statement today, Bukit Aman denied a viral message circulating on social media claiming police had rescued six children from a lorry, which was transporting them to a neighbouring country to have their organs harvested.
Bukit Aman Corporate Communications Chief Skandaguru Anandan said that hoax has been circulating since 2017 and reminded the public that spreading rumours online is an offence under the Communications and Multimedia Act.
Meanwhile, Perak police said their investigations found the nine-year-old who claimed that a man tried to kidnap her near her school in Ipoh had made up the story.
Her mother earlier lodged a police report claiming a man tried to pull her daughter into a van but fled after she screamed.
