Warisan open to collaborating with Sabah parties only

Warisan is seeking a "reset" of politics in Sabah and will only cooperate with local parties.

Speaking to reporters in Kota Kinabalu today, party president Shafie Apdal said this cooperation has yet to be finalised.

In the absence of changes, Warisan will field candidates for all 25 parliamentary seats in Sabah and one seat in Labuan.

However, Shafie hinted that there was still an opportunity for "something to happen".

"Most likely, we will field 25 candidates (in Sabah) unless something happens," he said.

Shafie's statement today further affirmed that Warisan was not interested in pursuing a pact with the Klang Valley-based Pakatan Harapan as it did during the 2018 general election and 2020 Sabah polls.

Ties between Warisan and Harapan soured after the latter secured a memorandum of understanding with caretaker prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob in 2021.

Shafie added that Warisan was keen on several seats in seven states in Peninsular Malaysia - Penang, Perlis, Kedah, Selangor, Johor, Perak and Kelantan.

He promised that Warisan will nominate "very professional" candidates.
