Pakatan Harapan maintains its stance against the dissolution of the state legislative assemblies held by the coalition, its chairperson Anwar Ibrahim said. 

Speaking to reporters today, Anwar (above, centre) said the consensus of not dissolving the legislative assemblies of the three states - Penang, Selangor, and Negeri Sembilan - led by Harapan was made today in the coalition’s presidential council meeting.

"Amanah and PKR have had the same stance since the beginning.

"DAP took some time to explain their position but in the end, party secretary-general (Anthony Loke) decided that Harapan and the three Harapan-led states will postpone the state elections to focus on measures to face flood woes,” he told reporters at PKR headquarters today.  

Also present at the two-hour-long meeting were DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, DAP chairperson Lim Guan Eng, his deputy chairperson Gobind Singh Deo, Perak DAP chief Nga Kor Ming, and Harapan communications director Fahmi Fadzil. 

Previously, the council decided that its states will not dissolve their respective state legislative assemblies until the monsoon season has passed.

However, DAP’s Penang chapter proposed to reverse the coalition’s decision to put off state elections until the seasonal floods period is over.

Anwar also expressed gratitude towards his Penang coalition colleagues for expressing the views of the voters and people.

“Harapan is a strong institution and we offer space for discussions, we would make decisions together.

“First, we reject the government’s greed for forcing an election in times when the people are suffering and facing the monsoon season.

“Secondly, we want government machinery to prepare and come up with solutions to lessen the burden of flood victims rather than focusing on the election and their positions,” he stressed.
