Pahang BN chief Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail revived the spirit of “Mat Kilau” to fire up state Umno members ahead of the 15th general election (GE15).

"Today's gathering is crucial because soon, we will go to the polls. It is important for us to defend Pahang for another five years.

"We all know the current situation. Umno/BN are being 'squeezed' (dihimpit) by Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan Nasional (PN).

“Looking at the mood of attendees here today, I feel like the spirit of 'Mat Kilau' has been revived," Umno Online quoted Wan Rosdy (above) as saying during his speech at the Solidarity Rally for Stability and Prosperity in Bera, Pahang, last night.

He was referring to Mat Kilau Rasu - a local chieftain and folk hero from Pahang, who is renowned for his role in the Pahang Uprising (1891-1895) against the British Empire.

Wan Rosdy, who is also the state Umno chief and caretaker Pahang menteri besar, said that BN is aiming to win at least 30 out of the 42 state seats in the coming elections.

Pahang prospers under BN

"God willing, in this election, we will arrest the opposition's influence in the state, and ensure Umno-BN wins at least 30 out of the 42 contested seats. This is our promise.

"After we (BN) lost the 14th general election, we saw how Pahang was denied necessary assistance by the ruling Harapan. But with the help of friends, we managed to disburse aid to the people."

Wan Rosdy further commended Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for defending Umno, despite the "trials and tribulations" faced by the party.

According to Wan Rosdy, his administration had managed to reduce Pahang's debt level and increase the state's revenue since the last general election.

This, he claimed, would ensure Umno-BN's return to power in the state.

"To Harapan, which ruled the country for 22 months and failed to fulfill many of their pledges, we will ensure there is no seat for them in Pahang.

"The same goes for the eight seats held by PN now. God willing, with hard work and continuous support, Umno-BN will defend this state."

For the record, BN contested all 42 state seats in GE14 and won 25. Harapan won nine seats, while PAS, which is part of PN, secured eight.
