Johor Amanah leader rips into 'weak' bosses over seat distribution

The Amanah leadership is facing further internal criticism over seat distribution, this time in Johor.
While voicing appreciation for their Pakatan Harapan allies and Muda, Johor Amanah committee leader Mazlan Aliman (above) nonetheless said the party's bosses are weak when it comes to seat negotiations.
"Unlike PKR and DAP, the leadership of Amanah is very weak in seat negotiations which have caused feelings of discontent among party members and supporters," he said in a statement today.
Mazlan added that leaders must remember that their mandate comes from the party's members - who work hard and sacrifice much to ensure victory for Amanah.
Chief among Mazlan's grouses was the decision to give Tanjung Piai to Muda.
He said it was a repeat of when Amanah gave up the Puteri Wangsa seat - a safe urban mixed constituency - to Muda during the Johor state election.
"With a few days to go before nomination day on Nov 5, the Tanjung Piai decision must be reviewed.
"Return it to Amanah as was decided before this," he added.
Tanjung Piai is a mixed seat, which Bersatu as part of Pakatan Harapan won narrowly by 524 votes in 2018.
However, Bersatu and Harapan were soundly beaten in a 2019 by-election where BN won with a 15,086 vote majority.
Failed to take back Ayer Hitam
Meanwhile, Mazlan also lamented that the party had failed to take back Ayer Hitam which he said was "loaned" to DAP in the last election.

Ayer Hitam is MCA president Wee Ka Siong's seat - who held onto the seat by a narrow 303 vote majority.
DAP is fielding Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali this time around in order to appeal to Malay voters.
Yesterday, Amanah sacked its Kedah chief Phahrolrazi Mohd Zawawi for threatening to boycott the election over a seat swap.
Amanah had given Jerai to DAP, in exchange for the Alor Gajah seat in Malacca where party leader Adly Zahari will be contesting.
Phahrolrazi warned that fielding DAP in Jerai - a rural Malay majority seat - would have a ripple effect that would disrupt Harapan's performance in other rural Malay seats in Kedah.
