The son of incumbent Tronoh assemblyperson Paul Yong will be running for his father's seat as a Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) candidate.

Bryan Yong was among the two state assembly candidates PBM announced today.

Sin Chew Daily described Bryan as a law graduate from East Anglia university who received a last-minute instruction to defend his father's seat.

Bryan called his father his political mentor and said his guiding hand will help the 25-year-old serve the Tronoh constituents.

Paul was a two-term DAP assemblyperson and former Perak executive councillor between 2018 and 2020.

However, his political career took a hit in 2019 when he was accused of raping a domestic helper at his home.

He was eventually found guilty and sentenced to 13 years in jail and two lashes of the cane. He is appealing the decision.
