PN pledges over RM10b for tech investments, agriculture, schools

GE15 | Perikatan Nasional is pledging over RM10 billion in funds and incentives for various measures if it captures Putrajaya in the 15th general election.
The funds and incentives are for a broad range of sectors from technology, agriculture, schools, and the environment.
In unveiling PN's manifesto tonight, coalition chief Muhyiddin Yassin said an RM5 billion special fund would be created to encourage investments in high-tech industries and to create jobs.
There will also be a scheme to encourage micro, small, and medium enterprises to go digital, on top of moratoriums for those who are struggling economically.
PN also aims to create one million jobs in the years to come.
In the short term, Muhyiddin said if PN wins, the first cabinet meeting will be focused on tackling the cost of living issues.
Civil servants will also get an RM100 per month increase in their cost of living allowances.
For the rakyat as a whole, PN plans to create a single agency to manage and streamline subsidies and aid.
PN also pledged to allocate RM1 billion for a "Fund for Food" aimed at increasing food production and stabilising food prices.
Rice farmers will get RM1,200 aid per year in seed aid, while smallholders will get RM800 per year in monsoon season aid, Muhyiddin said.
Allocations for bumiputera
For bumiputera, PN promised to allocate RM1 billion over five years for an agropreneur fund to encourage the production of agricultural products.
The coalition will also enhance bumiputera empowerment efforts by improving the functions of agencies such as Permodalan Nasional Berhad and Mara, besides streamlining bumiputera development programmes at all ministries and agencies with aim of hitting 30 percent bumiputera equity.
PN also promised a holistic development plan for the Orang Asli, covering improvement in basic infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.
On education, Muhyiddin said a PN government will allocate RM2.5 billion for school maintenance nationwide.
He also pledged new public universities in Sabah and Sarawak that offers strategic courses to guarantee jobs for graduates.
PN is one of three major coalitions vying to capture Putrajaya.
The nation goes to polls on Nov 19.
