Naming Perikatan Nasional’s Muhyiddin Yassin and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, Anwar chides their recent remarks on disrespecting the non-Muslims and making false accusations against DAP.

He also cites the Friday sermon for Perak calling on Muslims to reject leaders who are embroiled in corruption.

“This is a powerful sermon to the Muslims and also an extraordinary reminder to the people to choose the right leader,” he adds.

The ceramah ended at 11.30pm with over 20,000 in attendance.

Yeoh: In 40 minutes I have to stop but you can continue

11.20pm: Segambut, Kuala Lumpur - Pakatan Harapan’s Segambut candidate Hannah Yeoh’s last words to the sea of Malaysians who thronged to Taman Rimba Kiara is that they can continue to talk and promote the need to vote for Harapan candidates.

“Repeat everything you heard here today.

“I have to stop but you can continue talking to friends and family,” she says.

In a poignant moment, Yeoh starts naming Harapan candidates one by one, in mock roll call to take their places in Parliament, which left the crowd more empowered when than when they arrived.

Crowd boos former prime ministers

11pm: Segambut, Kuala Lumpur - Boos and cheers reverberate across Taman Rimba Kiara as Pakatan Harapan’s MP candidate for Damansara Gobind Singh Deo addresses more than 5,000 people who are there to listen to the string of activists and politicians speaking for Harapan’s Segambut candidate Hannah Yeoh.

The crowd boos former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Muhyiddin Yassin as Gobind points to the RM32 billion debt the nation has to settle as a result of the 1MDB scandal.

Respecting all races is Anwar’s life philosophy

10.50pm: Ipoh, Perak - A crowd of over 10,000 people at Pakatan Harapan’s grand finale ceramah chants “reformasi” and cheers for the coalition’s prime minister candidate.

Delivering his speech on stage, Anwar Ibrahim says upholding multiracial values and respecting all the races in this nation is his life philosophy.

“I am saying this not because I want to get your vote. This is what I believe and this is critical for this nation,” he adds.

Anwar also chides Perikatan Nasional’s Muhyiddin Yassin for disrespecting and making seditious remarks on racial sentiment.

PBM’s Hizwan gets interrupted during speech

10.42pm: Bandar Baru Ampang, Selangor - While Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) leader Hizwan Ahmad was speaking on stage, a supporter repeatedly uses a loudspeaker to interrupt his speech.

Appearing irate, Hizwan says: "If you want to speak, I'll let you come on stage and speak lah."

Earlier, two other speakers asked participants, mainly youth wearing purple, to keep quiet and not disturb the ceramah.

Hizwan is the former political secretary of PBM’s Ampang candidate Zuraida Kamaruddin.

PBM campaigners singing and waving the party's purple flag from the back of a moving lorry also create a carnival atmosphere and attract the attention of motorists and passers-by.

Anwar is an outdated product - Wee

10.40pm: Ayer Hitam, Johor - BN candidate for Ayer Hitam Wee Ka Siong trains his guns on Pakatan Harapan’s PM candidate Anwar Ibrahim, saying that the latter is like an outdated product which the opposition “has been selling for decades”.

Speaking at his final GE15 ceramah in Yong Peng, Wee reminds voters that Anwar did not take care of Chinese schools during his tenure as education minister in the 1980s.

For example, Wee says Anwar allocated only RM10 symbolically to Chinese primary schools at the time and sent teachers who did not know Chinese to Chinese schools where they sat in high positions.

"Many young people today do not know about Anwar’s radical past," Wee adds.

Over 500 people turned up and most of them are Chinese.

Anwar will cut cabinet size by half if he becomes PM

10.30pm: Tambun, Perak - Anwar Ibrahim pledges to reduce the size of the cabinet by half, if Pakatan Harapan is given the mandate to govern post-general election.

In a bid to convince the people who are struggling with the rising cost of living and surge in the prices of goods, Anwar stresses that ministers’ salaries will also be reduced by half.

“If appointed, this prime minister does not want to bring the culture of greed. Therefore I will cut the salary of the prime minister.

“The number of ministers that is at 70 now will also be cut by half, along with their salary - also by half.”

The veteran politician reminds those who aspire to be ministers to first accept his “terms”.

“If not, forget it,” he says in his grand finale speech at Meow Garden.

Tian Chua appeals to Harapan voters to choose him

10.20pm: Independent Batu candidate Tian Chua appeals to voters, especially Pakatan Harapan supporters, to vote for him tomorrow.

During a ceramah in Sentul, he reminds voters of his role in the reformasi movement, and reiterates that he will always stay true to Harapan and PKR's reform causes.

Tian Chua

"In my heart, my spirit, I support and will always be a PKR original. And I will never turn my back on the principles which I had been holding onto since I was one of the leaders in PKR.

"I am also one of those who want to see Harapan (win). This is what I fight for, and I will not abandon the struggle to uphold justice and I will always be with Harapan, come hell or high water," Chua tells a crowd of about 100 people.

A former PKR vice-president, Chua was sacked from the party after he entered the Batu contest as an independent, where he is facing nine others including PKR's P Prabakaran.

Pua: If you don't want Zahid as PM, come out to vote

10.15pm: Damansara, Selangor - The crowd at the Pakatan Harapan ceramah held at Kelana Jaya stadium is now close to 2,500.

More and more people are arriving at the event after 9pm, one hour after the ceramah started.

Earlier, outgoing Damansara MP Tony Pua urges Malaysians to prevent a rogue or a racist from being installed as the next prime minister.

Anwar Ibrahim may not be perfect, but he is the best Harapan can offer, he says.

"Who is BN's prime ministerial candidate? Ismail Sabri Yaakob? Even Ismail Sabri is not convinced that he will be made the prime minister.

"Who else if not Ismail Sabri? (BN chairperson) Ahmad Zahid Hamidi the samseng (gangster)?"

"If you don't want Zahid as the prime minister, then come out to vote."

Pua then asks if the people want PN chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin, who betrayed the mandate of the people via the Sheraton Move, to helm the country again.

He says Anwar not only takes a multiracial approach but also advocates institutional reform.

The crowd watch quietly as Anwar's speech is live-streamed from Tambun, where he is contesting.

9.55pm: Tambun, Perak - It is a sea of red at Meow Garden as Pakatan Harapan chief Anwar Ibrahim arrives to deliver his “grand finale” speech.

They await the prime minister hopeful to deliver a rousing speech on the eve of the 15th general election.

Umno cancer in the country, says Haris Ibrahim

9:50pm: Segambut, Kuala Lumpur - Activist and lawyer Haris Ibrahim who returned to legal practice recently despite his stage four lung cancer says Umno is a cancer plaguing the country.

Speaking to a sea of more than 3,000 Segambut electorate gathered at the Taman Rimba Kiara in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Haris says: “A cancer that has hit this country is called Umno. The cancer has taken the life out of the B40s and our vote must be to lift the marginalised.

“I’m fighting cancer but I will fight Umno and BN till the very end,” he promises to a roaring crowd.

Stumping for Pakatan Harapan’s incumbent Segambut candidate Hannah Yeoh, Haris urges voters to put her back in Parliament.

However, Haris reminds voters across the country who are listening online, that in order for Yeoh to sit in the cabinet, all other Harapan candidates needed to make it into Parliament too.

Muhyiddin’s final call to voters

9.30pm: With less than 24 hours to go before polling day, Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin calls on Malaysians to choose candidates from his coalition.

PN chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin

He recalls his agenda for the rakyat during his administration, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, such as the vaccination programmes, cash aids, food packs and special moratoriums.

“When I was prime minister, many difficult decisions were made. I was insulted, despised, and reviled. It’s okay. Every single decision I made was carefully studied, taking into account input from both health and economic experts as well as state and party leaders,” Muhyiddin says in his final address for GE15, live-streamed on Facebook.

As a new coalition, he claims the support for PN candidates nationwide has been encouraging, especially from the youth.

“Choose a party that has proven in a short time that it is a vessel of the people’s aspirations and ideals. Reject the parties that do not place importance on integrity, cultivate corruption and are unable to fulfil their promises,” he adds.

Rakyat misses BN’s glory days - Zahid

9.20pm: In his final address on the GE15 campaign trail live-streamed on his social media, BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says the rakyat misses the glory days under the BN administration.

BN chief Ahmad Zahid Hamidi

As such, he urges voters not to experiment again by voting in a government that does not have a proven track record of developing the country as BN does.

He says BN’s record of service shows that their leaders are not elitists, who only show up once every five years, but instead they are always with the rakyat through thick and thin.

Everything is also decided collectively in BN, with no one leader above the rest – an approach which Zahid says will ensure the stability of the government.

He also promises to empower Sabah and Sarawak by appointing deputy prime ministers from among their leaders, along with those from the peninsula, as well as to revive the Malaysia Agreement 1963.

Bersih warns of website possibly stealing voter information

9.30pm - Electoral reform group Bersih is warning voters not to use a website with the address "semak.info".

This comes after a message circulated online claims the website is an electoral roll checker from the Election Commission (EC).

The website is not from the EC and does not reveal who is behind it, Bersih says.

"It also asks for voters' IC numbers and phone numbers, ostensibly so they can receive their details via WhatsApp.

"This is potentially dangerous as your phone number could be abused by unsolicited marketers and scammers.

"We would advise against using this service to check for your voting details," Bersih says.

The EC's official electoral roll checking service is https://mysprsemak.spr.gov.my and only the voter's IC number is needed, not phone number.

As of the time of writing, however, the EC website appears to be down intermittently.

Rafidah tells Segambut voters to nip crooks in the bud

9.10pm: Segambut, Kuala Lumpur - Former minister Rafidah Aziz is speaking at the ceramah of Pakatan Harapan's Segambut candidate Hannah Yeoh.

She is urging the crowd to vote and put the right people in the government.

Before selecting MPs to put in the Dewan Rakyat, one must start at the grassroots level, she says, so that when the candidates get elected, there will be no kleptocrats in government.

Rafidah, 79, says she is still suffering the effects of a previous Covid infection but she could not stay home and do nothing.

"My country, my children, and grandchildren are here.

"I must do my little bit. I cannot sit back and 'lantak you all' (to hell with you all)," she says.

Spirits are high at Wee Ka Siong election carnival

9pm: Ayer Hitam, Johor - BN candidate for Ayer Hitam Wee Ka Siong is holding a "pre-election night carnival" in the constituency this evening.

About a dozen stalls are set up serving a variety of foodstuffs while there was a lion dance earlier.

Over 500 are in attendance, most of them Chinese, with many wearing t-shirts coloured BN blue with Wee's name on them.

As Wee, who is also the transport minister, arrived, the crowd's spirits lifted and supporters rushed to shake hands with him or welcomed him by blowing whistles.

Led by the emcee, the crowd shouted "Wee Ka Siong will win" in Hokkien while waving their blue flags.

Apart from Wee, other speakers tonight are MCA Central Publicity Bureau chief Chan Quin Er and two assemblypersons from the state seats under Ayer Hitam: Ling Tian Soon (Yong Peng) and Samsolbari Jamali (Semarang).

"Corruption must be wiped out.

"Do not get me wrong, I was critical when Pakatan Harapan was in power, but they never stole money and they never got me into jail for being critical.

"If corruption carries on like this in the country, we are finished," she says.

"Every one of us invested our lives in this country. My parents did so and they voted every time but the BN they supported is not the same BN now," she says.

She also points out that no other political coalition can compete with Harapan.

"We must put Harapan and Muda in the government," she says.

The crowd is continuing to grow as even more people are seen arriving after 9pm.

"It feels a bit strange but what can we do, we still can't go home," Bernama quotes flood evacuee Fasilah Othman, 45, as saying.

Her three children who are first-time voters have just arrived from Kuala Lumpur this morning to join her at the PPS.

Perikatan Nasional candidate for Arau, Shahidan Kassim

“I received a message in an Arau WhatsApp group informing me that such leaflets were widely distributed in the Arau constituency.

“The leaflets claim that Shahidan was contesting on a BN ticket and voters should support BN,” he tells reporters outside the Arau police station today.

The incumbent Arau MP decided to stand on a PN ticket after he was dropped by Umno from contesting in GE15.

Threat against MACC chief shows opposition’s vengefulness, says Ismail

5.40pm: Bera, Pahang - The threat by PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli against MACC chief Azam Baki proves the vengefulness of the opposition party, says caretaker prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli

In fact, he said such an attitude could also be seen after Pakatan Harapan formed the federal government in 2018, during which several agencies, such as the Special Affairs Department (Jasa) and the National Civics Bureau (BTN) were abolished as they were deemed to be supporting (as agents of) the BN government.

“After the 14th general election (GE14), we can see that they are taking revenge… when they became the government, they got rid of all officers who were not supporting them, tens of thousands of contract officers under Jasa and BTN were terminated just like that.

“Apart from that, BN-linked chairpersons of government-linked companies or agencies also received the same fate. They were sacked long before the letter of termination came… the same attitude shown by Rafizi now,” he told a press conference after attending a meet-and-greet programme with residents of Bandar 32, Bera today.

Caretaker prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob

Earlier this week, media quoted Rafizi as saying that Harapan “will come after” Azam if the coalition wins the GE15.

5.30pm: Johor Bahru, Johor - Police have received a report that a candidate of a political party in Kulai held a lucky draw for the public during a ceramah last night.

Kulai district police chief Supt Tok Beng Yeow says the police report was lodged by a political party representative at 10am today at the district police station.

Teo claims that the event was a vote-buying campaign as 10 artistes were invited to offer 100 lucky draw prizes which included gold chains and electronic gadgets.

Meanwhile, Chua when contacted denies the allegations, saying he did not organise the programme and was invited as a guest.

“I have informed my lawyer and we are leaving it to the police to conduct an investigation and they will have my cooperation,” he said.

I used all my savings for GE15, says GTA candidate

3.30pm: Kuala Selangor, Selangor - Gerakan Tanah Air's Kuala Selangor candidate Shaid Rosli says he has emptied his savings accounts to pay for his general election campaign.

The sitting Jeram assemblyperson says he has even cashed out money he was saving in Tabung Haji to perform the haj.

He says he has had to fork out his own funds because his party, Pejuang, only provides candidates RM15,000 to pay the deposit to contest.

Shaid Rosli

“As such, I don’t think I can afford to defend my state assembly seat in the state election later,” Shaid, 40, says on Facebook.

“But just as I have cared for voters in Jeram, I can also care for the voters in the state constituencies of Ijok and Melawati,” he says, referring to the other two state constituencies located within Kuala Selangor.

“So I urge my Facebook friends to help campaign for me… If each of you can convince 10 people, I will be able to win.”

‘Malicious and slanderous’, Perak PAS reports Nga’s claims

Perak DAP chairpeson Nga Kor Ming (centre)

“Nga’s accusations are malicious and slanderous to PAS, (a party) that is fighting on the basis of the law and is in line with the Federal Constitution.

“The statement by Nga, known to be an extreme leader in DAP, is a sign of extreme prejudice and hatred towards moral and religious values fostered in Malaysia.”

The incumbent Kulai MP says the programme was organised by BN component party MIC.

“The BN Kulai candidate (Chua) also spoke and campaigned in the programme. It is quite clear that it was a vote-buying campaign programme.

“Last Thursday, the Johor menteri besar (Onn Hafiz Ghazi) and the MCA president (Wee Ka Siong) also attended a banquet with NGOs and the Chinese community at Hotel Impiana, Senai.

“I have urged the Johor MB and Wee to answer who paid for the ‘Friendly Session’ held at Hotel Impiana, Senai.

“It is not wrong for BN leaders to campaign for their candidates. But if the banquet that exceeds 30 tables is paid for with the people’s money, then it is very wrong,” said Teo.
