Anwar ‘cautiously optimistic’ of Harapan’s chances

GE15 | Pakatan Harapan chairperson Anwar Ibrahim said his coalition was confident of forming the next government based on assessment and the level of enthusiastic support they had received.

“Our study also shows it. God willing, Harapan will form the new government,” he said.

Anwar added he was least concerned about speculation that BN and Perikatan Nasional (PN) may cooperate to form the next government, should none of the coalitions garner enough seats to form a government on their own.

“We are cautiously optimistic. Things are looking good and if God wills it, I can swear in as the next prime minister,” Anwar stated.

Anwar said this after casting his vote at SK Sri Penanti in Permatang Pauh today.

He arrived at the polling centre at 9am. Anwar was later seen shaking hands with voters at the school gate.

“BN and PN have their strategy, but to us, BN and PN are the same as they practise the same system. No transparency, poor governance, and tolerant of corruption, and I won’t be surprised if they work together.

“We are getting overwhelming support, including in Tambun, I pray to God that we get the majority to form the government,” he said.

On that note, Anwar thought the rain and thunderstorm would be a major obstacle as some places are expecting them, but it seemed that voters are still coming out to vote.

Overall, Anwar said the people are looking for a change and the country cannot progress further without it.

“And I hope the Election Commission will perform its duties transparently and professionally,” he said.
