The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has opened a total of eight investigation papers against Penang state civil servants from 2020 until 2022 for offences related to corruption, abuse of power and embezzlement.

Chief Minister, Chow Kon Yeow said the state government was open to any investigation by the authorities into corruption and abuse of power involving the State Executive Council, state assemblypersons and state government employees.

“Any report of wrongdoings will be investigated by the enforcement agency concerned,” Chow (above) said at the Penang State Legislative Assembly meeting in George Town today.

He was responding to a question by Mohd Yusni Mat Piah (PAS - Penaga) who wanted to know how many MACC cases were being investigated in Penang involving the state exco members, assemblypersons and state government employees.

Chow also said for investigations involving state employees, the disciplinary authorities can take action under Regulation 44 of the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) 1997 or the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) (Penang) 1997 for the purpose of the suspension of work involving criminal proceedings.

Besides that, he said the state government has and would take action against all MACC reports after a complete report is received from the MACC on misconduct involving exco members, assemblypersons and state government employees if their cases have not been taken to court.

"The state government will not withhold any information related to the MACC reports," Chow added.
