Who should be PM? GPS looks to Agong for directions

Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will leave it to the wisdom of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to decide who should be the prime minister.

GPS said this in a statement today, two days after it claimed that it would support a government led by Perikatan Nasional's (PN) Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister.

Its latest statement does not mention Muhyiddin at all, nor did the coalition nominate anyone else.

GPS said this although it had previously proposed the formation of a government comprising PN, BN, GPS and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) which represented all ethnic groups and religions.

In view of the "political crisis in Peninsular Malaysia", GPS said it would leave it to the Agong’s wisdom to appoint a prime minister that would lead a stable government.

"GPS stresses that the nation’s interest and forming a stable government should take priority, taking into consideration that the interest of the rakyat and country is more important than personal interests," it added.

Muhyiddin and Pakatan Harapan's Anwar Ibrahim are both racing to form a government.

The BN bloc holds the crucial 30 seats needed by either candidate to pass the simple majority mark (112).

BN's top brass is expected to make a decision today, as both candidates have until 2pm to prove to the Agong that they have the numbers.

GPS telah mengemukakan cadangan untuk menubuhkan Kerajaan Malaysia daripada gabungan yang terdiri daripada PN, BN, GPS dan GRS yang mewakili kerangkuman masyarakat Malaysia yang terdiri daripada pelbagai kaum dan agama.

Memandangkan kepada kemelut politik di Semenanjung Malaysia, GPS berpendirian bahawa mandat rakyat hendaklah dihormati.

Oleh itu, GPS menyerahkan kepada kebijaksanaan Duli Yang Maha Mulia Yang DiPertuan Agong mengikut kuasa yang diperuntukan kepada Baginda dalam Perlembagaan Malaysia untuk melantik Perdana Menteri yang akan mengetuai kerajaan yang kukuh untuk mentadbir negara.

GPS menegaskan bahawa kepentingan negara adalah lebih diutamakan dan penubuhan kerajaan yang stabil mengambilkira kepentingan rakyat dan negara melebihi kepentingan peribadi.
