Police have clarified that there was no incident of rioting and illegal assembly involving members of a political party in Lenggong on Monday which went viral on TikTok.

Perak police chief Yusri Hassan Basri instead said the picture which was uploaded by one TikTok account holder had been edited and the story that followed was fabricated to say that the situation was not safe.

“Our own investigation revealed that the picture that was uploaded was taken when police were conducting patrols during the tallying of votes last Saturday.

"The individual who did it was very creative by taking pictures of a different situation and later compiling them and creating a story to show an unsafe situation, especially in Lenggong and as we know, Lenggong is the constituency of the menteri besar,” he said at a press conference at the Perak police contingent headquarters today.

According to him, a team had been sent to Dewan Merdeka in Lenggong to investigate but found no rioting as alleged.

The TikTok content claimed that the rioting happened after Saarani Mohamad was sworn in as the Perak menteri besar following the formation of a coalition state government between BN and Pakatan Harapan.

He also said that the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had been directed to conduct a thorough investigation on the TikTok account holder under Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
