Aminuddin: 6 states 'unofficially' agree to dissolve legislatures simultaneously

Six states that did not dissolve their legislative assemblies prior to the 15th general election have agreed to hold state polls at the same time.

Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun revealed this as part of the outcome of an "unofficial" meeting between menteris besar or chief ministers of the six states, during the Conference of Rulers meeting in Kuala Lumpur recently.

"Thank God, they seemed to be in agreement, and we will make a decision (on dissolving the state assembly).

"However, this agreement was only at the menteri besar and chief minister level, and we still have to go through party presidents, deputy presidents, and presidential councils," Berita Harian quoted Aminuddin as saying after chairing the weekly exco meeting in Seremban, today.

Aside from Negeri Sembilan, the five remaining states are Selangor, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu. The first three states are led by Pakatan Harapan, while the rest are helmed by PAS, which is part of the opposition coalition Perikatan Nasional (PN).

Holding the six state elections simultaneously, Aminuddin said, will make the Election Commission's job easier.

It would also save cost and make it easier for voters to return to their hometowns to cast their ballots, he added.

Aminuddin previously alluded that the state election would be held around June next year, after the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations in April.
