Another MCA branch has called for Transport Minister Dr Ling Liong Sik's resignation over the "flying licences" scandal involving the Road Transport Department (JPJ).

MCA Gardenia Centre branch chief Jessica Yu today issued a statement today, urging various political parties and non-governmental organisations to support MCA Damansara Baru Branch's call on Wednesday for Ling to resign as minister ([#1] MCA branch calls on Ling to resign [/#], Sept 27).

Yu said all must support Damansara Baru branch chief Lee Chong Beng's stand in evolving a new political culture of "not protecting someone at all costs".

She stressed that Ling as transport minister should bear the responsibility of a corrupted department under his ministry and resign.

"This is a matter concerning Ling himself, and cannot be connected with MCA because the transport ministry is a government institution and not an asset owned by MCA," she noted.

She said if the transport minister's inability was not criticised, it would encourage a corrupt political culture in the country.

Meanwhile, Lee told malaysiakini today that he expected more MCA branches to call for Ling's resignation and take responsibility for the "flying licences" scandal.

While admitting that some of the branches leaders have contacted him, he declined to name the branches although he said he believed the Selangor and Kuala Lumpur branches are supporting their call.

Lee also accused Ling of trying to dodge the issue when he offered to resign as minister if that was the wish of most MCA members and the government, as was reported in The Sun today.

However, MCA Serdang MP Yap Pian Hon said that the call for Ling's resignation by Damansara Baru is an "exceptional" case.

Yap stressed that MCA's problems should be solved within the party. He added that he thought Ling's position was strengthened following the "mending of an alleged rift" with his deputy Lim Ah Lek earlier this year.
