KJ: No due process, no show-cause letter before Umno's sacking

Former Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin revealed on social media that his expulsion from Umno came without warning and that no show-cause letter or disciplinary hearing was given to him prior.

Earlier today, he posted a screenshot on his Instagram of a news portal’s article that questioned the cause that led to the party’s sackings and suspensions on Friday night (Jan 27).

“Confirmed no due process. No show-cause letter, no disciplinary hearing. Summarily and unilaterally sacked from a party I have been loyal to for 23 years,” he wrote.

Khairy was fired from Umno, along with 42 other members, for breaching party discipline during the 15th general election and allegedly deceiving the party.

The party also sacked supreme council member Noh Omar, who asked to be let go after he was initially suspended for six years.

Previously, Khairy wanted to challenge Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for control of the party.

He alleged that “phantom delegates” were planted at the recent Umno annual general meeting in order to pass a motion that would forbid competition for the party’s presidency and deputy presidency.

Yesterday, Khairy stated that he would remain loyal to Umno and had declined invitations to join Perikatan Nasional.

‘Who would’ve thought?’

Meanwhile, Sembrong MP Hishammuddin Hussein also posted on social media that “their evil must not make us lose our good”, in the wake of his suspension from the party.

He uploaded a photo of himself consoling an Umno supporter on Instagram earlier today.

Hishammuddin was likely referring to the six-year suspension of him and several others from Umno, although he made no mention of the matter in his post.

Khairy, now a former colleague of Hishammuddin’s, left a comment with words of encouragement on his post, telling the Sembrong MP that his journey was far from the end.

“Who would have thought all those years ago that this would be part of our journey together.

“But, as I said, it’s not the end. It’s far from the end,” Khairy said.

Among the suspended members were incumbent deputy Umno Youth chief Shahril Hamdan Suffian, former Jempol MP Salim Sharif, and former Tiram assemblyperson Maulizan Bujang.

The reason for their suspension was not stated.

However, Umno supreme council member Puad Zarkashi claimed that Hishammuddin breached the party’s trust by being the main driver of the “St Regis Move”.

He was among the 10 BN MPs who purportedly signed statutory declarations (SD) endorsing Muhyiddin as prime minister in response to the political impasse that followed the 15th general election.

Puad emphasised that the president was not the only one who made the choices; they were also based on recommendations from the Umno disciplinary board.
