Is Nurul Izzah as adviser good governance, Bersatu Youth leader asks PM

A Bersatu Youth leader has questioned whether Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is actually committed to the principles of good governance.

The wing's information chief Mohd Ashraf Mustaqim Badrul Munir said Anwar had already gone against this when he took on the finance minister portfolio, which contradicted Pakatan Harapan's previous stance on the matter.

Ashraf (above) argued that Anwar further undermined the principles of good governance in appointing his daughter Nurul Izzah as his senior adviser on economics and finance.

"Is it good governance when there is a small cabinet, but various advisers are appointed?

"And those positions create redundancies, such as when the country already has an economy minister that is Rafizi Ramli," he said in a statement yesterday.

Ashraf also questioned whether Anwar was not as great as his admirers believe him to be, or whether Rafizi and Rafizi's deputy Hanifah Hajar Taib are incapable of helming the Economic Ministry to the point that the prime minister had to appoint his daughter to advise on such matters.

"Is that good governance when you appoint your own daughter as a senior adviser? Isn't that nepotism?" he added.

Nurul Izzah revealed her appointment as the prime minister's senior adviser on economics and finance in an interview with The Star that was published yesterday.

She said she had been serving in the role since Jan 3.

Anwar said she is not being paid for her role and that she is qualified to be an adviser.

Ashraf quipped that if the work was pro bono, Nurul Izzah could advise Anwar at home.

Good governance has been a key issue for Anwar, which he said was needed in order to fix the country.
