'Mat Rempit' in Kedah, Penang and Perak have formed 'alliances' and cooperated in violent crimes, according to a media report today.

After a spell of quiet following the police's declared war on the motorcycle gangs last December, the Mat Rempit in the three states have re-emerged in league recently to commit a spate of crimes, said the New Straits Times .

Following the recent armed robbery of a 60-year old man in Nibong Tebal, Penang police arrested seven suspects, including a 15-year old boy, said CPO Koh Hong Sun.

Solving 47 cases

Yesterday, another four suspects were picked up in Kulim, Kedah. They were said to have been involved in a total of 47 robbery cases in the state, Penang, and Perak.

"With their arrests, we are confident of solving the 47 cases in the three states reported since last year," said Koh.

The police are tracking down the remaining members of the gang, said Seberang Prai Tengah police chief Mohd Anil Shah Abdullah.

"We want to put a clamp on their activities as they are getting bolder due to the larger group," he added.
