Siti Nurhaliza hit with fake viral post after Kedah gig

Celebrated singer Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin criticised the spread of a fake Facebook post claiming that she complained about the Himpunan Madani event where she performed last Friday.

Siti Nurhaliza wrote on her Instagram account that the fake material was widely circulated and had already convinced many of its veracity.

"This is fake. Stop doing such things. I am a singer. I entertain all.

"In the month of Syawal, we should be building ties and not spreading fake news," she said.

The fake Facebook post claimed that she was unaware that the Himpunan Madani event in Alor Setar, Kedah last Friday was a political event.

The fake post also claimed that Siti Nurhaliza would "respect" the state government - which implied that she supported Perikatan Nasional.

Apart from Siti Nurhaliza, singer Amy Search also performed at the event which saw Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and several cabinet ministers speaking.

Meanwhile, entertainment and lifestyle news website Rotikaya has apologised for reporting the fake Facebook post as one of its news items.

"We were duped because in the (fake) message it promoted a (legitimate) concert (featuring Siti Nurhaliza)," wrote Rotikaya on its Facebook page today.
