The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) is doing its utmost by using the most suitable methods to recover loans from borrowers, its chief executive officer Yunos Abdul Ghani said today.

"We are working closely with the ministry (higher education) in our efforts to collect the loans," he said when contacted.

We are also working with local banks on this matter, he added.

Yunos was responding to a Star report today where BN parliamentarians had expressed their dissatisfaction on the corporation's slow loan recovery process.

Five MPs were concerned about it and had asked that the corporation's management be restructured.

Yunos asserted that the corporation is already doing its best and is in the process of improving the methods used to trace the borrowers.

"We are dealing with a million borrowers, we are trying to come out with new facilities to make it easier for the former students to repay their loans," he said.

On the complaints from MPs, Yunos said that corporation's management is now a new one.

He agreed that changes need to be planned and organised and that they cannot be simply implemented overnight as a lot of people are involved in the process..

Meanwhile, PTPTN chairperson Razali Ismail reiterated the corporation's commitment to get back the loans from borrowers as soon as possible.

"We are also working with the Inland Revenue Board in the recovery process," he said when contacted today.

It was reported that the corporation has yet to recover about RM600 million from borrowers.
