A Perikatan Nasional (PN) leader has called on voters in the upcoming elections in six states to cast their ballots for a leader with a proven track record as opposed to one who fails to keep promises.

Federal Territories information chief Mahathir Mohd Rais accused Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of failing to deliver the pledges made to the people, such as guarding Malay rights and eradicating poverty.

"The rakyat must choose based on evidence and facts, not empty promises. A PN win in the upcoming elections can bring about concrete changes in people's lives.

"The choice is in our hands. Should we choose a leader who makes promises but fails to keep them, or a leader who is sincere, bold, and honest?" he added in a statement today.

According to Mahathir, the people are restless with the various problems faced under the current government such as the rising cost of living and the “unkept promises to the Malays.”

On the other hand, Mahathir noted former premier and PN chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin’s "achievements" during the Covid-19 pandemic.

"As the PM (then), he (Muhyiddin) showed resolve and firmness in executing difficult but important decisions for the people's welfare and the country's security.

"Muhyiddin enforced the movement control order (MCO) to stem the spread of the virus and introduced various initiatives to help the people, and businesses during the pandemic. In addition, he also launched an effective Covid-19 vaccination campaign," he added.

In comparison, Mahathir claimed that people are beginning to realize that PN is a "better alternative" to the Harapan-BN combination.

Apart from “robust policies”, Mahathir argued that PN also has the upper hand in having a strong leadership in the form of PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and PN secretary-general Hamzah Zainuddin.

PN is hoping to replicate its “green wave” in the polls for the six states - Selangor, Penang, Negeri Sembilan, Terengganu, and Kelantan.

Selangor, Penang, and Negeri Sembilan are controlled by Harapan whereas Kelantan and Terengganu are PAS strongholds.
