Harapan, BN in fear of SDs, says Sanusi

Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said Pakatan Harapan and BN are currently gripped by fear due to the purported statutory declarations (SDs) that could bring down the coalition government.

Sanusi (above) was reported by Sinar Harian as saying that the government parties are concerned that the rumours could become reality, even if they deny it.

“What are they so afraid of? Because they know we have (the numbers), right? If they don’t deny it, people might think the reports are just rumours.

“It’s not impossible (to happen). Don’t ask me (the total number of SDs) because I’m not an MP,” Sanusi said in a press conference after the launch of Kedah Perikatan Nasional’s election machinery in Guar Chempedak, Kedah last night.

PN secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin, PAS sectary-general Takiyuddin Hassin, Bersatu vice-president Ronald Kiandee, and Kedah PN leaders were also present at the event.

“I would like to confirm that I don’t know. I don’t even want to deny it. I’ll be happy if it happens and I look forward to that moment. I pray it becomes a reality,” Sanusi said when asked if there was a movement to overthrow the current government.

Previously, a PN leader denied the rumours of the coalition’s MPs signing the aforementioned SDs.

Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu maintained that the opposition’s main focus, for now, was to win the upcoming elections in six states.

This comes after a cryptic Facebook post by Bersatu leader Muhammad Faiz Na’aman implied that PN had the support of 126 MPs to form a government.

Kedah a ‘hot state’

Meanwhile, he also reiterated that the agreement to hold simultaneous state elections reached in the meeting between six menteri besar and chief ministers from Harapan and PN in February remains unchanged up to the present time.

Sanusi said that he believed it would be too risky if both coalitions did not hold the state elections at the same time.

“No one made any other plans. We (PN) still want the same election period for Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu.

“There is a risk that if we don’t do it at the same time, either they (Harapan) will ‘crush’ us or we will ‘crush’ them.

“There are states where the state assemblies would dissolve itself in June or July. (For) Kedah, it is July 4, while Kelantan is on June 26, and Terengganu is on June 28," he said.

The PN leader insisted that it is up to the Election Commission to determine the official date of the polls once the respective state assemblies were dissolved.

Additionally, Sanusi described Kedah as a hotspot for both Harapan and PN.

“PN rules Kedah, Harapan wants to usurp it. They also want to seize Kelantan and Terengganu but they are not strong enough so they start with Kedah.

“We (PN) don’t think their alliance is easy to deal with,” he said.
