Works Ministry preparing final draft of Batang Kali report - minister

The Works Ministry, through the Works Department and other related agencies, is preparing the final draft of the Batang Kali landslide investigation report.

Works Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi said that elements taken into account in the report involving the last December incident are soil inspection on site and in a laboratory and data analysis.

"Data from the tests is essential to be analysed by various experts to determine any failures, including geotechnical engineering and geology.

"A report on the findings will be obtained by end of June and will be presented to cabinet before being finalised for all parties involved to take future actions," he said.

Alexander noted there have been many calls including from families of victims, for the final report to be completed and released.

"Therefore, I give my assurance that PWD is doing their best to finish the process," he added.

Last week, The Star reported that family members of the Batang Kali landslide victims had questioned an apparent lack of progress in the government's investigation of the tragedy that claimed the lives of 31 victims, including 13 children.

Around 2.30am on Dec 16, 2022, a landslide nearly 300m long and 70m high occurred at the Father’s Organic Farm campsite in Gohtong Jaya, Batang Kali.

In February, about two months after the tragedy, Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said the state government is ready to reveal a full report prepared by the state Mineral and Geosciences Department.
