Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) has backed Sarawak premier Abang Johari Openg as well as Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in the “spirit of unity”.
PSB president and state opposition leader Wong Soon Koh said that the party has pledged full support for Abang Johari (above) to allow the premier to carry out initiatives for the people of Sarawak, as well as achieving the Post Covid-19 Development Strategies 2030.
“We, the leaders and members of PSB, have decided to set aside our differences and rally behind the premier and prime minister to enable them to accomplish what they’ve set out to do for our country.
“They have our full support in unity for the betterment of our country,” he said in a speech today.
Wong and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) president Tiong King Sing signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) this evening at the Park Royal Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

Asked if this agreement meant Wong would step down as opposition leader, the Bawang Assan assemblyperson responded: “Time will tell, we are going through a process.”
Earlier today, The Borneo Post reported that PSB and PDP are possibly working towards a merger.
In his speech today, Tiong said that both parties would take a possible merger step by step.
“No doubt people have been asking whether a merger would happen or not. To me, we are step by step. We start by working together and let our party members and PSB members understand each other well and we will create more platforms for our grassroots to work together,” he said.
He later told reporters that the MOU signed between PDP and PSB has been in the works for over a year.
PDP has five seats in the state and is a member of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition. PSB is part of the opposition and has three seats in the state legislative assembly
Without PDP’s support, GPS has 76 out of 82 seats in the Sarawak state legislative assembly.
Meanwhile, PDP deputy president Henry Jinep said that today’s development was a positive step, as the opposition had realised that GPS was on the “right track” in turning Sarawak into a developed state with good policies and governance.
“This means less politicking and looking forward to improving the lives in the state.
“The message here today is that the six (election) states should follow GPS’ move,” he added.
