The Malaysian Bioeconomy Development Corporation (Bioeconomy Corp) has appointed Dr Lee Boon Chye as its new non-executive chairperson, effective July 11.
In a statement, it said Lee has assumed the post which was vacated by Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid - who retired on Dec 16, 2022.
Lee has a vast and notable experience primarily in the medical sector, and is currently a resident consultant physician and cardiologist at KPJ Ipoh Specialist Hospital, it said.
Previously, he served as deputy health minister from 2018 to 2020, and was also the Gopeng MP from 2008 to 2012.
“With his expertise and leadership, the organisation is poised to strengthen its commitment to advance biotechnology and bio-based industries that harmonise economic growth, social well-being and environmental sustainability in Malaysia," said Bioeconomy Corp.
