As expected, caretaker Kedah menteri besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor is the headline candidate for Perikatan Nasional in the state, defending his Jeneri seat.

Other notable candidates include two footballers and an academic.

Retired footballer Muhamad Radhi Mat Din will be having a rematch with Kedah Pakatan Harapan chief Mahfuz Omar.

The two had fought for the Pokok Sena parliamentary seat in 2018, with Mahfuz emerging as the winner.

Meanwhile, former long-time Kedah Darul Aman midfielder Baddrol Bakhtiar will be contesting in Gurun against Firdaus Johari - the son of Dewan Rakyat speaker Johari Abdul.

Baddrol is currently playing for Sabah FC.

Contesting in Jitra - a seat currently held by Pejuang president Mukhriz Mahathir - is academic Haim Hilman Abdullah.

Incumbent Pedu assemblyperson Mohd Radzi Amin is also defending the seat against Kedah BN chief Mahdzir Khalid.

Mahdzir is speculated to be a potential menteri besar candidate for the Harapan-BN coalition.

Meanwhile in Sidam and Lunas, the incumbents who had jumped from PKR to Bersatu were replaced with two new faces from the same party.

Lunas incumbent Azman Nasrudin is now the Padang Serai MP and had said he would not be defending his state seat.

Overall, PAS is contesting 21 seats in Kedah, followed by Bersatu (12) and Gerakan (3).

For Gerakan, all three seats they are contesting (Kota Darul Aman, Bakar Arang, and Kulim) had less than 50 percent support for PN during GE15.

Kulim is the most “winnable” seat for Gerakan, with 46 percent support for PN in the constituency during the general election.
