STATE POLLS | Goh Gaik Meng, the Perikatan Nasional candidate for the Sekinchan state seat in Selangor, has claimed that the Chinese cannot stop the “Malay tsunami” sweeping through the country.
As a result of this, he claimed the Chinese community can only join in.
Goh, an associate member of Bersatu, is contesting against incumbent state assemblyperson Ng Suee Lim from DAP.
When met in Sekinchan yesterday, Goh said his decision to contest in the state polls is to represent the Chinese community within the PN coalition.
According to him, while the DAP and MCA represent the Chinese community in the Harapan-BN coalition, there is currently no one within the PN coalition who can safeguard the rights of the Chinese community.
“There is no Chinese representation in PN. Gerakan cannot represent the Chinese community, have you seen them speak up?”
Therefore, he believes he must play the role of defending the rights of the Chinese community within the coalition that contains PAS and Bersatu.
“The Chinese voice cannot disappear in the opposition. There must be a voice, someone to speak up for the Chinese community,” said the 50-year-old.
From MCA to Bersatu
Goh further claimed that as a minority race in the country, the Malaysian Chinese cannot stop the “Malay tsunami”.
“I actually want to tell the people of Selangor... the Chinese cannot stop this Malay tsunami. A so-called tsunami within the Malay community has been set off.
“As a minority ethnic group with only 20-30 percent (of the population) in this country, we cannot stop this so-called Malay tsunami.”
Goh said only with enough Chinese representatives in government or in the opposition can the rights of the Chinese be safeguarded.
“If PN wins in Selangor but without any Chinese representatives and state executive councillors, who will represent the Chinese and defend their rights in the (state) government?”
Goh, a former MCA Youth central committee member, contested the MCA Youth chief election and lost to Chong Sin Woon in 2013.
According to media reports, he joined Bersatu in March this year and became a member of its non-bumiputera wing.
He believes that with his background in the MCA, he can gain votes from MCA members.
Mr Goh can you speak Javanese. Otherwise you consider your chances of unseating Mr. Ng suee lim is as good as gone. Mr Ng SL has promoted Sekinchan to what it's. today
