Police to monitor, 'profile' cops suspected of living beyond means

Police personnel suspected of living beyond their means will be subjected to monitoring and “profiling” to determine their actual income.

Mingguan Malaysia quoted Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain as saying that Bukit Aman’s Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS) will focus on personnel suspected of a lavish lifestyle that raised questions, particularly among the public, on their source of wealth.

“For example, if the officer’s salary is RM8,000 but has three houses and three cars.

“We will investigate the household’s expenditure, credit cards, and others, to see if it matches with the income,” said Razarudin (above).

At the same time, Razarudin said any bribery-related complaints received against personnel will also be investigated to ensure their veracity.

“For every accusation made, we perform surveillance and investigation. Not just that, action will also be taken if there were information related to police personnel being entertained at karaoke lounges or nightclubs.

“This is a standard procedure to limit and prevent opportunities for police personnel to be involved in unsavoury activities,” he added.

‘Event financial audits’

Meanwhile, Razarudin said JIPS will also conduct a financial audit on all functions or programmes held at the district, state contingent, and Bukit Aman levels, to determine its source of funds.

He said the audit applies to both events funded internally within the ranks or external sources to prevent any form of abuse that could destroy the force.

From 2020 up to June this year, Razarudin said JIPS had taken action against 447 officers and personnel for various wrongdoings.
