Light aircraft crashes on Shah Alam road, 10 feared dead

A light aircraft crashed on a road in the City of Elmina near Shah Alam this afternoon.

According to initial information from government agency sources, the incident that occurred around 2.45pm involved several victims.

Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan told reporters at the scene that there were eight people on board the Beechcraft passenger aircraft, which was travelling from Langkawi to the Subang Airport.

"It was scheduled to land at Subang Airport at 2.50pm, but two minutes before landing, the aircraft crashed on the road.

"The aircraft also crashed into two vehicles - a motorcycle and a car," he said.

As of 5pm, the authorities said all victims are presumed dead.

A Fire and Rescue Department officer told Malaysiakini that they received a call at 2.53pm and dispatched rescuers from the Kota Anggerik and Sungai Buloh fire stations.

Based on several social media postings, a motorcyclist was reportedly killed on the spot as he was at the point of impact when the aircraft crashed.

Landing clearance given minutes before crash

According to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAAM), the aircraft involved was a Beechcraft Model 390 (Premier 1) which departed the Langkawi International Airport at 2.08pm.

In a statement, CAAM chief executive officer Norazman Mahmud said the private jet operated by Jetvalet Sdn Bhd was carrying six passengers and two flight crew at the time of the incident.

"The first contact made by the aircraft with Subang Air Traffic Control Tower was at 2.47pm and landing clearance was given at 2.48pm.

"At 2.51pm, the Subang Air Traffic Control Tower observed smoke originating from the crash site but no mayday call was made by the aircraft.

"Kuala Lumpur Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Centre (KL ARCC) has been activated to coordinate the search and rescue mission," he added.
