Rev Ouyang Wen Feng expressed joy and surprise at being given the opportunity to fulfill his childhood dream at the Metropolitan Community Church.
In an emailed newsletter, he thanked the Kuantan Methodist Church, Jalan Ipoh Methodist Church and Bridge Communication Centre for accompanying him in his growth.
A double degree graduate and soon to be a double doctorate holder, the US-educated Ouyang publicly declared his sexual orientation to some 100 people at the launch of his Chinese-language book 'My Journey' last August.
As a columnist for Sin Chiew Daily , he wrote a series of articles that were sympathetic of the gay community.
Ouyang has since moved on to writing for Fridae , a website that aims to empower gays in Asia. He said his writings now reach people in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore.
He had previously mentioned his hopes to become a member of the clergy in 2010 and his plan to set up a Christian gay community by then.
