While welcoming the Election Commission's (EC) intentions to use indelible ink in the future polls, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said two other demands had yet to be met.

The two other issues, he said, was the abolition of postal voting and ensuring the integrity of the electoral roll. The two issues are also core demands by other opposition parties to the EC to prevent alleged electoral fraud.

He said PAS would be sending a delegation to meet the EC soon to discuss the other two outstanding issues.

Nevertheless, Abdul Hadi said PAS accepted in principle the EC's intentions to implement the use of indelible ink to mark voters who have cast their ballots.

"We don't accept it (the EC's intentions) officially, but we agree in principle because it is one of the three demands by PAS to EC that was granted," said Abdul Hadi during a press conference at the sidelines of the PAS 53rd Muktamar (convention) in Pengkalan Chepa, Kelantan today.

'Satisfying' opposition

He expressed regret that the EC's had only agreed to implement the system in principle and that there was no discussions with political parties or official statements made.

In a sudden announcement yesterday, EC chief Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman said the commission has in principle agreed with the use of indelible ink.

Election reforms coalition Bersih, of which PAS and four other opposition groups are party to, had been urging the EC to do so to prevent multiple or 'phantom' voting.

Abdul Rashid added that the EC hoped to carry out the proposal to use indelible ink by the next general election to "satisfy" requests from the opposition.

He added that the EC was studying the need to amend the Election (Conduct of Elections) Regulations 1981 and the material to be used in implementing the proposal.
