PM: Watch full interview with CNN, not cut-and-paste version

PARLIAMENT l Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has advised opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin to view his full interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour for a detailed explanation of the Madani economy.

Anwar said the Larut MP, as a former minister and elected representative, should not rely on “cut and paste” excerpts of the video, to criticise him.

"Referring to the CNN interview, I recommend Larut to watch the whole interview and not view the cut and paste (version) that was made.

"We have shown the entire interview with CNN, where I provided my answers in full, but there are saboteurs who intentionally edited it to make it look like I did not answer the question," Anwar said in the Dewan Rakyat.

The premier was responding to Hamzah (above, right) who earlier asked Anwar to explain how the new Madani economy framework was different from the Shared Prosperity Vision 2030 introduced during the Pakatan Harapan administration four years ago.

Covid-19 changed many things

Commenting further, Anwar said the Madani economy policy under his administration is based on economic sustainability and physical development, coupled with values and courtesy.

"The context of our country is different post-Covid-19. We accept the fact that we are dealing with difficult-to-grasp situations, some of which happened simultaneously.

"Therefore, there is a need to introduce policies that are in line with values, religion, thoughts and local issues that do not necessarily line up with initial recommendations of the World Bank," Anwar said, adding that the Madani economy also emphasises social targets and good governance.

The premier agreed that efforts should be made to provide further explanation to the people about the Madani economy for better understanding.
