English Newspapers

All English dailies carried the marriage announcement of Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to Jeanne Abdullah.

New Straits Times reported that the premier's hope for the public's blessing and that a happy prime minister can do a lot of work. He added that he was not implying that he was unhappy previously, only happier now with a companion.

The Star quoted the prime minister as saying that his love for Endon will remain strong forever but God created spaces in one's heart for different people you can love.

The Sun depicted the premier beaming while fielding reporters on his upcoming marriage.

The daily also frontpaged the confirmation of a bird flu outbreak in Sungai Buloh by the Veterinary Services Department yesterday. The disease was first detected on Saturday.

Malay Newspapers

The impending high-profile marriage was also the lead news in the Malay dailies.

Berita Harian headlined that the marriage will be held in a moderate ceremony and only to be attended by immediate family members.

The daily also featured the Attorney- General Abdul Gani Patail's explanation for the change in the prosecution line-up. Deputy Public Prosecutor Salehuddin Saidin was seen playing badminton with the judge of the case. He said that the issue only came to his attention last Thursday and due to time constraints he had no other choice but to ask for a postponement in Altantuya's murder trial.

Utusan Malaysia led with the first couple's compatibility as well as the blessings from Abdullah's children and siblings as the reasons for choosing Jeanne Abdullah as his new life partner.

The daily also highlighted the Attorney-General's reason for changing the prosecution line-up for the high-profile case.

Chinese Newspapers

All Chinese newspapers - Sin Chew Daily, Nanyang Siang Pau and Oriental Daily reported that Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi would marry Jeanne Abdullah, 53, on this coming Saturday and only close relatives and friends to the couple would be invited to the private wedding.

Tamil Newspapers

Again, the Prime Minister's wedding was the main story in Tamil Nesan, Malaysia Nanban and Makkal Osai .

Editorial

New Straits Times commented on the recent reports of private hospitals' refusal to treat incoming patients in need of emergency care. The editorial also urged government hospitals to equip their facilities well.

The Sun featured the celebration of Environment Day and is optimistic that as the numbers of environmental-caring citizens grow, there will be a political will to change the mindset of leaders.

Berita Harian congratulated Pak Lah on his upcoming marriage.

Utusan Malaysia highlighted the serious threats posed by climate changes.

Sin Chew Daily reported that MAS Airlines is going to fly again in the rural areas of Sabah and Sarawak in this October and all these flights will be managed by its new established company MAS Wings.

Nanyang Siang Pau felt that security in local schools or colleges should be emphasized to prevent crime cases.

Oriental Daily urged that effective ways should be taken earlier to prevent the spreading of avian flu and people should be on high alert before the outbreak.

Others

The Borneo Post highlighted Sarawak Second Planning and Resource Management Minister Awang Tengah Ali Hassan refuting the allegations against the revised land lease renewal policy, which he had announced on May 26 in Miri.

In a press statement, he said that the land value was determined by market forces and not controlled by the government as alleged by certain parties.The new rates of premium to be charged ranges 25 per cent to 40 per cent of the current market value taking into account the usage and category of land.
