Protesters gather outside US embassy in KL, voice solidarity with Palestinians

Some 150 people gathered outside the US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, at around 8.30pm today, to protest the administration's open support for Israel in the ongoing conflict with Palestine.

Standing in solidarity with Palestinians under attack by the Zionist regime, concerned individuals and pro-Palestine NGO members targeted the US government’s tacit support for Israel.

This comes after a Gaza City hospital was destroyed in a blast, killing hundreds. Gaza’s health authorities blamed it on an Israeli air strike.

Palestinian Cultural Organisation Malaysia chairperson Badereddin Seyam said the protest was held in response to the “permission” given by Washington for Israel to “destroy” his homeland and people.

“The US administration, gave 'green light' to (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu’s government to destroy our land and people.

"We have to stand up here. We have to raise our voice to show solidarity with Palestinians," said Badereddin when addressing the crowd in attendance.

In between speeches, including by Pejuang president Mukhriz Mahathir and Terengganu Amanah chairperson Raja Kamarul Baharin, the crowd chanted "destroy Israel” and waved the Palestinian flag.

Some 20 uniformed police personnel were seen observing the crowd and at one point, moved in to prevent them from marching closer to the embassy building.

The protesters then ceded to the police's request for them not to march.

The protest - which had gone on for more than an hour - ended not long after.
