KSN: It is good to read that the PM is angry, rightfully so. The most important question to ask him is what is he going to do about it. He must call the Minister for the Federal Territories to his office and ask him what is going on. What is the KL Mayor and his enforcement officers doing?

How much of the floods were caused by clogged drains? If the drains are blocked and clogged with rubbish, DBKL's workers and the supervisors should be held responsible, disciplined and where necessary, sacked. This approach should be implemented without exclusion until the level of the minister. In other words, heads must roll.

This approach should also be adopted without exception to cover all agencies both at the federal and state levels. It is a national problem and disaster in that we have no enforcement and maintenance.

Can someone bring this to the attention of our PM if he is serious about his concern about the daily difficulties the people of Malaysia face because the government agencies entrusted with their tasks and responsibilities have failed miserably.

On Kelantan gov't to rebuild church

Peter Ooi: I am really disgusted by the demolition of a small church built by the Orang Asli on their own land. In the first place, based on Zakaria Deroz mansion episode, the most the authority could do was to fine the Orang Asli and subsequently ask them to apply for a permit to build the church. Why must the authority act in such a haste?

Assuming the that a 'surau' was built instead of a church under the same conditions, would the authority have demolished the building? Come on, so much had been said about the virtues of Islam, one of which is fairness and tolerance of other religions. Now is time to put that into practice.

On Malaysia beyond Lina Joy

Dawoud Massi: It is with deep sadness that Malaysia continues to persecute and discriminate against its Malay Muslim population. If Lina Joy was Christian born, she would have more freedom. She could marry whoever she wants. (ie, Muslim, Hindu, Christian etc). She could legally have a Bible in the Malay language and other Christian materials. She would not be discriminated against.

I do hope that Malaysian leaders will begin to stand for the truth and for equal rights for all people of all races and all religions.

Anwar Z Abidn: I would like to point out that, as far as the law is concerned, Lina Joy is still technically a Muslim as her religious status has not yet been decided by the Shari'ah courts. She is also officially a Muslim because this is stated on her Mykad (a matter which was the subject of her application to the civil courts). As such she is still under the jurisdiction of the Shari'ah court.

On Wedding poem: Samy not responsible

ASN: I read the above letter sent by press secretary of our 'Honourable' Works Minister with amazement, scepticism and surprise as the claim was that the accused plagiarism was not the work of the said minister but the writer himself. While I salute the gut and courage of the press secretary in taking responsibility, I was wondering if this was done just to save the face of our works minister so as to avoid him from being charged as a plagiarist thus losing his integrity as a respectable minister.

What also puzzled me is that the press secretary, being a person with a profile as important as a senior minister's press secretary can be so careless as to 'inadvertently' omit the mentioning of the authorship of the poem in question.

Another point to note is that our ministers do read reports or letters carried by Malaysiakini as proven from the response by this press secretary. Now we can draw their attention to the daily problems we want to complain about but never get heard.

PT Tan: Let's be fair to him. Copying someone's poem for a good cause should not be condemned. After all, when we sing 'Happy Birthday', don't we do the same? Condemn Samy Vellu for all the wrongs of the country infrastructure but do not condemn him for this. There are better things to berate him about and we should not get distracted.

On Suhakam blasts sexist MPs

Paran Chinnia: Referring to the sexist remarks that were made by two MPs in Parliament recently, apparently the outcry by public didn't create any effect at all. Are we Malaysians used to this sort of treatment? A mere 'elegant silence' works everything out.

Shouldn't we pursue the issue until something is done? Now, we have two sexist MPs roaming free and Jamaludin Jarjis, with his racist comments receiving their pay packest just like how it used to be. Let this one go, and we will be served with more 'sick' dishes in future. Stand up and be counted! We ought to make a stand and make it happen, now.
