Kemaman by-election: PN picks Terengganu MB as candidate

Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar has been unveiled as the Perikatan Nasional’s candidate for the Kemaman by-election.

The announcement of Samsuri's candidacy was made by PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man in Kemaman this evening.

Tuan Ibrahim said that, initially, five names were submitted for evaluation as potential candidates.

“On behalf of the (party) president, I hereby announce that the PAS candidate representing PN in the Kemaman by-election is Samsuri,” he said.

According to Tuan Ibrahim, today also marks the birthday of the Rhu Rendang assemblyperson.

Aged 53, Samsuri is one of the three vice-presidents of PAS, as well as the deputy commissioner of the party in Terengganu.

He holds a doctorate in mechanical engineering from the University of Leeds, UK, based on his thesis on aircraft turbine engines.

Samsuri will face the former chief of defence forces Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor, who has been announced as the BN candidate.

The Election Commission has set Nov 18 as nomination day for the by-election, while polling day is scheduled for Dec 2.
