PKR CONGRESS | A PKR vice-president tasked to lead Pakatan Harapan’s election battles in Kelantan and Terengganu, where rival Perikatan Nasional nearly wiped out the coalition, has urged party members to not give up.
Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad in his winding-up speech at the 17th PKR Congress today said while their losses are regrettable, members should not look down on voters in the East Coast.
"That (no hope) was how we used to look at Selangor, Sabah and Sarawak, but we managed to break through and win.
“So I’m confident that if we work hard in Kelantan, Terengganu, I’m confident (we can win).
"It won't be easy. I'm not going to pretend it will be easy, but we can achieve a breakthrough with commitment and confidence," he added.
In addressing the party delegates, Nik Nazmi (above) urged PKR members to follow an example set by party president and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who continued to channel allocations to resolve problems in Kelantan.
As the natural resources, environment and climate change minister, Nik Nazmi said he had in the first few months in office channelled RM500,000 for a flood mitigation project at a village in Kelantan.
"We in the unity government, we can carry out short-term solutions, and so now flooding in the village is minimal.
"I'm confident if we can win the hearts of voters in the East Coast, InsyaAllah we can break down the walls for us to win the majority of Malay support nationwide," he added.
Sticking together
PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar in her winding-up speech also cautioned members against bringing down their own party's efforts.

This is while working towards building greater strengths and successes, said the former Permatang Pauh MP who recalled her own journey with the party formed to seek justice for her father.
"For sure no one is perfect. But if we can have good faith towards rival parties, no doubt we can do the same towards our own party.
"Look around us, these are the people we have in this fight together," she added.
The second and last day of PKR's 17th annual congress was held for the first time at Putrajaya International Convention Centre, also marking the first year of the unity government led by Anwar as prime minister.
