Daim to be charged Monday, says looking forward to it

Former finance minister Daim Zainuddin is set to be charged in court on Monday.

The 85-year-old tycoon confirmed this in a brief statement issued via lawyer Rajesh Nagarajan, who’s representing him.

“Yesterday, MACC officers recorded a statement from me.

“My lawyers have since been informed that I’ll be charged on Monday (Jan 29) for an offence under Section 36 (2) of the MACC Act 2009, which is an offence pertaining to the disclosure of assets,” Daim said.

“So be it. I look forward to my day in court,” he added.

On Thursday, MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki confirmed that Daim would be charged next week, following the latter’s discharge from the hospital due to an undisclosed illness.

It was earlier reported that Daim is expected to face at least one charge of failure to declare several properties he and his wife have an interest in.

Last Tuesday, Daim’s wife Na’imah Abdul Khalid claimed trial for failing to abide by an MACC notice to disclose her assets.

Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported that Daim and Na’imah terminated the service of two lawyers in the legal team representing them in the ongoing MACC probe and prosecution due to “a difference of opinion” in the conduct of the cases.
