Respect allies, stay out their internal affairs, Fahmi tells Hassan

Stop meddling in our ally parties’ internal affairs, PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil tells Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim.

This comes after Hassan called for Umno to replace its president, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, to regain Malay voters’ confidence in the party.

“Please respect our partners in the unity government. This is very regrettable,” he said.

On Jan 31, Hassan was reported as saying that Umno needed to be led by a fresh face and should not only ride on the “fragile" coat-tails of Pakatan Harapan.

The issue affecting Harapan and BN, he added, was the decrease in Malay support - which Hassan said could change if Umno is led by a new president who has integrity and charisma.

A day later, Umno supreme council member Mohd Puad Zarkashi hurled brickbats at the PKR MP and urged the latter to self-reflect before asking the party to replace its president.

“There are those who feel that Hassan’s view is a good one. However, his request for Zahid to be replaced is too much. The PKR MP should reflect on himself.

“He should urge PMX (Anwar Ibrahim) to replace underperforming PKR ministers. What success has Rafizi (Ramli) accomplished for the people’s economy?” he asked.

The Johor state assembly speaker then urged Hassan to not meddle in Umno’s internal affairs, just like what the party has done for PKR.

On that note, Fahmi said while criticisms are welcomed, they should be channelled through the party leadership and the latter should be allowed to deal with it.

“Others may take advantage of the situation due to the statement made. So, have some respect for our partners. He (Hassan) should consult party leadership and let them deal with it.

“And this is a stern warning to Hassan,” the communications minister added.
