Kapar aircraft crash: Two killed on the spot - police

Police have confirmed that two individuals, including a pilot, were killed in an aircraft crash in Kapar, Klang this afternoon.

According to a statement by Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan, the victims have been identified as Daniel Yee Hsiang Khoon, 30, and Roshaan Singh Raina, 42.

"Initial investigation revealed that the aircraft had nose-dived towards an oil palm plantation and the crash caused 45 percent of its fuselage to be buried in the dirt.

"Both victims were killed inside the aircraft," he said.

Earlier today, Malaysiakini reported that a light aircraft crashed at a palm oil plantation in Kapar.

According to the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department, rescuers were dispatched to the scene after authorities received a call about an aircraft on fire at 1.56pm.

As of 2.45pm, rescuers were still searching for victims.

“Following the call, a team of firefighters from Kapar fire station were dispatched to the incident scene at Kampung Tok Muda, Kapar.

“According to the initial report from the team, they found that an aircraft had crashed at the location.

“The team is still searching for victims,” said a spokesperson.

Malaysiakini managed to establish that the aircraft involved was a Blackshape Gabriel two-seat tandem aircraft, and belonged to the Air Adventure Flying Club based in Subang.

When contacted, a representative for the club confirmed that its aircraft was involved in the incident but declined to comment further.

“We are busy now trying to solve the problem and then we can make a statement,” said the person.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAAM), in a statement, said the aircraft had departed from the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang at 1.28pm for a recreational flight.

There were two persons onboard the aircraft, which made last contact with air traffic control at 1.35pm.

"Last contact made by the aircraft with air traffic control was at 1:35pm, however, there was no distress call received.

"Kuala Lumpur Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Centre (KLARCC) at Kuala Lumpur Air Traffic Control Centre (KLATCC) was immediately activated to determine the location of the aircraft.

"A total of two persons including one pilot were onboard and their conditions have yet to be confirmed at press time," said CAAM chief executive officer Norazman Mahmud.

According to Norazman, a safety investigation will be carried out by the Transport Ministry's Air Accident Investigation Bureau.

Meanwhile, a short video clip on the incident has since gone viral on social media.

It showed debris of the aircraft strewn around the crash site while the aircraft tail bearing number I-POOC was seen half-buried in the dirt.
