Fans of K-pop band BTS want CEO axed for 'backing Israel'

Fans of the world’s most influential Korean band, BTS, have demanded its management firm to sack the head of its North American subsidiary.

According to Middle East Eye, the fans have accused Hybe-America chief executive officer Scooter Braun of expressing support for Israel in its ongoing war on Gaza.

The report stated that it is “part of a wider movement among K-pop fans to draw attention to the plight of Palestinians in Gaza.”

It also noted that the Korea Times reported that on Feb 23, fans sent a truck to the headquarters of Hybe in central Seoul, calling on the firm to “divest from Zionism and Zionists in the industry”.

“If our demands are not met, ARMY (BTS fans) will continue to push for you to meet our demands. Do not look away when the same thing that happened to your Korean ancestors is happening to Palestinians,” read the message displayed on the truck.

“We ask that you stand for humanity, for the right side of history and against violence,” it added.

Apart from this, fans have also initiated a letter-writing campaign directed at Hybe after accusing Braun of making comments on social media supporting Israel’s actions or attempting to “obfuscate the realities of Palestinians living under occupation”.

BTS has over 352 million followers worldwide. The group also boasts of a large fanbase in Malaysia.
