English Newspapers

The New Straits Times frontpaged Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's renewed dedication to national unity, regardless of race or religion. The daily also headlined the proceedings of the Altantuya Shaariibuuu murder trial where it was revealed that corporal Sirul Azhar Umar had signed out weaponry for a "special mission" the day the Mongolian national was murdered.

The Star headlined Health Minister Dr Chua Soi Lek's warning that plastic containers should not be reused to store food. The newspaper also featured the news that Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail had ordered the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) to cease its investigations on Deputy Internal Security Minister Mohd Johari Baharum.

Malay Newspapers

Berita Harian headlined the latest developments in the Altantuya trial. Yesterday, the court was told that police found notes in accused Abdul Razak Baginda's office that said things like "You love money or your life."

Utusan Malaysia 's front page focused on the discovery that weaponry had been checked out by corporal Sirul the day Altantuya was murdered.

Chinese Newspapers

Sin Chew Daily and Oriental Daily New s frontpaged Johari criticising the police force, including Inspector-General of Police Musa Hassan and CID director Christopher Wan.

Nanyang Siang Pau headlined that corporal Sirul borrowed a machine gun for a 'special mission'.

Tamil Newspapers

Both Malaysia Nanban and Tamil Nesan headlined an Indian woman's request for her son to be released from a prison in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Malaysia Nanban also reported the Health Ministry's reminder to the public on the dangers of dengue which to date has taken 57 lives. Whereas, Tamil Nesan carried a report on the attorney-general's directive to ACA to stop its probe on Johari.

Makkal Osai headlined the Immigration Department's arrest of a man from a neighbouring country who was carrying 2kg of Syabu at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport. The daily also reported the attorney-general's directive to ACA.

The New Straits Times lamented Culture, Arts and Heritage Minister Datuk Seri Rais Yatim's decision to prevent the private sector from participating in Independence Day celebrations.

Berita Harian commented on the large number of Malaysians who had revoked their citizenship even though there were numerous opportunities to be had in the country.

Oriental Daily News opined that the planning for education should be forward-looking.

Malaysia Nanban and Makkal Osai applauded the Education Ministry's proposal to introduce a new plan to all schools to produce world class athletes.

Tamil Nesan called for the Education Ministry and Health Ministry to conduct regular checks on school canteens so that the food prepared by canteen operators are not only clean, but also healthy. This is also to reduce obesity among school children.
