Former Bersatu supreme council member Muhammad Faiz Na’aman has joined PKR.

Faiz announced this on Facebook yesterday, following a prayer-cum-meeting session with Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudun Shari at the latter’s residence on Sunday.

“With the public announcement by the MB during the function, yours truly and former Dengkil assembyperson-cum-former Selangor Bersatu Youth chief Adhif Syan (Abdullah) have been accepted as PKR members.

“I’m thankful... after being partyless for more than six months,” Faiz wrote.

On Aug 7 last year, Faiz resigned as a Bersatu member, citing irreconcilable differences. In doing so, he claimed that the party was not respected by Perikatan Nasional’s largest component PAS.

Days after quitting, Faiz said Bersatu was akin to a poorly managed public toilet, which has no future without necessary reforms.

Looming exodus?

Faiz said he would help strengthen PKR’s original struggle for reformation, and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s Malaysia Madani concept.

Meanwhile, Free Malaysia Today reported that hundreds of Bersatu grassroots members are purportedly joining PKR for various reasons.

The report, quoting an anonymous source from PKR, said this is due to the members’ inability to advance their political careers in Bersatu.

“Mostly, Bersatu members left Umno to advance their political careers.

“But now, they feel they have limited room for growth unless they are allied with a certain Bersatu leader,” the source told the portal.

According to the source, the exodus, including Bersatu division leaders, had started happening and is expected to increase towards the end of the fasting month.

The source told FMT that candidates eyeing posts in the PKR election, expected to be held at the end of this year or in early 2025, have started gathering support from grassroots members in the party, as well as Bersatu.

“The Bersatu members will either join PKR directly or start by joining PKR-friendly NGOs and then make their moves from there,” the source reportedly said.
